Are you interested in getting new teeth using dental implants—a procedure with the highest success rate of all dental surgery types? If you are, you may still have plenty of good questions about the dental implant process.
We’ll answer some of the top questions we hear on this page. If you have more questions, contact us at Advanced Dentistry by Design. You can even get a FREE implants consultation to find out if you’re an ideal tooth implant candidate.
How Long Does a Dental Implant Procedure Take?
Placing the new tooth root only takes about an hour. Implant surgery is fairly straightforward because we carefully plan it beforehand. In some cases, though, it can stretch to two hours.
Before we get to the surgery stage, we’ll give you a dental health check, take dental x-rays, check your medical records, and let you talk to the family dentist about the dental implant steps you’ll go through. This all takes about one hour.
Some patients also need a jawbone graft to prepare their jaw for the implant. If needed, that would take another hour.
Last, we’ll craft a tooth restoration, such as a dental bridge, tooth crown, or implant-supported dentures to complete your smile.
Altogether, your time commitment in the dental clinic for the tooth implant process could be two to four hours.
What Is a Dental Implant?
The term “dental implant” refers to the metal tooth root that supports a new tooth. Dental implants can hold single new teeth or larger appliances holding multiple teeth.
A typical one-tooth replacement includes:
- The Post: The dental implant functions like a new tooth root. It naturally bonds to the jaw for a stable base.
- Replacement Tooth: We craft a tooth crown that looks and feels like a natural tooth.
- An Implant Abutment: This is a connector between your implant root and your tooth crown.
If you need fixed dentures or other tooth replacement options, we can place multiple implants at once to get ready for a larger appliance and many new teeth.
How Long Do Dental Implants Last?
We make implants (the tooth root) out of durable metals, such as titanium. The metal is biocompatible, which naturally fits in with your body’s systems.
The point is that each implant will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Implants are amazing investments for that reason. You only need to get them once at your local dentist office, and they’ll keep working for a lifetime, supporting different types of tooth restorations that you may need.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?
Your total costs will vary based on the number of implants you need, the type of tooth restoration, the materials used, and more. Every implant case is unique.
The price will include the implant itself (the tooth root) and the customized tooth restoration—a crown or other appliance. It could also include a bone graft surgery, when needed.
But your out-of-pocket costs will also vary, based on the type of insurance you have, HSA or FSA funds available, and other factors. During your consultation, we’ll give you a fair estimate of the price, if you’d like.
Will I Need to See an Oral Surgeon to Have Dental Implants Placed?
No, we are set up to perform all needed dental services here in our office. The same team will perform 3D scans, dental cleaning (if needed), surgery, tooth restoration, and follow-up appointments.
