What should I expect during my dental exam and cleaning?
We encourage regular dental exams and cleanings every six months for all patients beginning at the age of four. Regular exams are important so that we can:
- Check for any problems that you may not see or feel
- Look for cavities or any other signs of decay or infection
- Inspect your teeth and gums for gingivitis and signs of periodontal disease
- Provide a thorough teeth cleaning
Regular exam and cleaning appointments include full cleaning and polishing of your teeth and comprehensive oral exam by the doctor. During the oral exam, we will check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue, and that all existing fillings and restorations are intact. Pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause fillings and restorations to wear away, chip, or crack, so it is important to get regular check-ups to make sure the condition doesn’t worsen!
Visiting our office every six months gives you the chance to ask us about any questions you may have about your oral health. Our regular exam and cleaning visits typically take about 45 minutes to 1 hour and are by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time, and we kindly ask that you do the same. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately!
