Gone are the days of metal brackets and wires!  Now, even some of the most complex movements and crowded smiles can be taken care of using clear aligners.  Straighten your teeth without anyone being able to tell!

While this may sound too good to be true, advancements in Invisalign® technology have made it possible to straighten teeth, correct bites, and improve airway and TMJ function in half the time it used to take.

Why Choose Clear Aligners Over Traditional Ortho?

Clear aligners have multiple benefits when compared to braces, all while being able to achieve the same desired result.

  1. More hygienic and less likely to lead to cavities

Brackets and wires get in the way of a patient being able to effectively brush and floss their teeth. As a result, it is very common to see puffy gums, cavities, or the characteristic white spot lesions on teeth once the braces are removed. [Insert pics]

Because clear aligners can easily be popped in and out, patients can maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing as they normally would.

  1. Virtually invisible

Clear aligners are exactly as their name implies—clear. This makes them a much more cosmetic alternative to the metal look of traditional braces.

  1. Much more comfortable and lightweight

Aligners are thin and lightweight so that even when you’re wearing them, it essentially feels like nothing is even there. They also won’t irritate your cheeks and lips the way brackets do.

  1. No dietary restrictions

Because you remove the aligners to eat, there are no restrictions as to what you can or cannot have. With braces, you usually want to stay away from hard, sticky foods to avoid breaking off the brackets, or anything that will get caught between the bands and wires. With aligners, you can just pop the trays out and eat whatever you’d like.Just make sure to brush and floss before putting them back in!

  1. Gentler, more consistent force over time

Aligners provide a gentle, consistent pressure on the teeth to move them. This differs from traditional braces, where a large amount of pressure is placed on the teeth when the wire is tightened, and then they are given a month to settle before the next tightening. The softer forces of the aligners significantly reduce the soreness and discomfort that is associated with braces.

  1. Less root resorption

Root resorption is the shortening or blunting of the roots of teeth as a result of extreme movements or heavy forces.Shorter roots can potentially compromise the stability of teeth in the bone.As mentioned above, because aligners deliver gentler forces over time, as opposed to a heavy force at one go, root resorption is less likely to be an issue.

  1. Fewer and quicker appointments

Clear aligner appointments are much shorter and less frequent than braces appointments. You are given your aligners to change out on a weekly basis at home and only really need to come in to make sure your teeth are moving on track and to place an attachment if needed.

  1. Shorter treatment time

With clear aligners, as long as your are wearing them the recommended amount a day, you can be switching to the next aligner in as little as a week. When compared to braces, where you are coming in to have your wire tightened every 4-6 weeks, aligners can effectively cut the treatment time in half, taking a 15-18 month case down to 8-10 months.

So now that we know the why of Invisalign®, let’s discuss how the process works.

It All Starts with a Scan

During your initial consultation appointment, we digitally scan your teeth using our Itero Element 2 Digital Scanner.  You’ll no longer have to deal with messy impression material or uncomfortable wait times while the goop hardens.  With scanning, it’s as simple as passing a handheld wand over all the surfaces of your teeth to create a digital representation of your teeth right up on the screen in front of you!

Once we have the scan, we can show you right then and there a simulation of what your smile could look like, eliminating any uncertainty you may have about what Invisalign® can do for you.

You Have Control Over the Final Product

Before proceeding with any treatment, you will be able to see an accurate representation of the final product, as well as the steps it will take to get there.  Unlike other forms of orthodontic treatment, with Invisalign®, you can approve or disapprove what you see, give feedback, and request that teeth be aligned in a particular way.  As long as the movements are orthodontically feasible, any adjustments can be made!

The ultimate goal of orthodontic treatment is to give you a healthy, functional smile that you will be proud to show off, so it’s only right that you have the say when it comes to the final outcome!

The Invisible Option

Once you are ready to begin your treatment, you are given a series of comfortable, clear trays designed to move your teeth to achieve the desired final result.  Invisalign’s state of the art tray design makes them virtually invisible, as well as flexible and lightweight, so that neither you nor those around you will realize you’re wearing anything!
