Invisible Braces San Jose

Do you like what you see when you smile in the mirror?

A straight smile is not only attractive; it's also healthier! When your teeth align correctly, they are easier to keep clean and restore, and they result in fewer jaw problems and bite-related issues. Overlapping teeth can trap food particles and bacteria that you can’t reach, leading to tooth decay or gum disease.

Older teen and adult patients often wish to improve the appearance and function of their smiles, but the idea of orthodontics can feel daunting. Brackets and wires do not fit into every type of lifestyle, and the appearance of them can keep some people from seeking the treatment they want and need. For patients who wish to maintain a polished and professional demeanor, metal braces can easily shatter the image.

At the San Jose dental office of Victor D. Woodlief, DMD, we offer an excellent solution! Invisible braces open the door to orthodontics for many of our patients. If you are interested in learning more about your teeth straightening options, please don’t hesitate to call our dental office at any time.

What Are Invisalign and ClearCorrect?

Both Invisalign and ClearCorrect use a transparent aligner system to realign teeth into their ideal position gradually. The main difference between them and traditional braces is the don’t require wires or brackets; the clear plastic aligners fit over your teeth and gently shift your teeth to their preferred position.

Both types of invisible braces can correct several alignment issues, including:

  • Overlapping teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Protrusion
  • Gaps between teeth

Are you interested in using clear aligners to enhance your smile? Invisible braces will work for most orthodontic conditions, with the exceptions of highly complex cases. The best way to find out if they will work for you is to give us a call and schedule an orthodontic exam with Dr. Woodlief.

What Dental Issues Does Invisalign Treat?

Many patients are interested in straightening their teeth for cosmetic reasons, but the benefits don’t stop at a beautiful smile. Invisalign can treat and prevent dental issues that can cause pain or anxiety.

TMJ

When your bite is misaligned, it can affect your jaw and lead to a painful jaw joint disorder called temporomandibular joint (TMJ). San Jose patients with TMJ often report ear pain, headaches, and neck aches.

TMD

Invisalign helps with continuous grinding, wearing a clear plastic aligner can help relax the muscles that contribute to grinding—relieving TMD symptoms. TMD is a bite disorder that can happen to anyone and is often associated with anxiety and stress. Patients who suffer from TMD live with extreme pain and can have issues opening their mouth or eating.

Oral Hygiene

Crooked teeth love to create little hidey-holes where food and debris can hide and lead to tooth decay or infection. This is known as food impaction and over time, can present severe complications to your teeth and gums. Even the best oral hygiene won’t remove caught food since your toothbrush and floss can’t reach trapped food.

Treatment with Invisalign and ClearCorrect

After your initial exam, we will take impressions of your teeth, along with diagnostic x-rays to determine your current oral health and the position of your teeth. Dr. Woodlief will plan your treatment and estimate the length of time it will take to complete your treatment plan. We will send your information and treatment plan to our trusted lab, where they will create your aligners.

Once we receive your finished aligners, you can start your treatment. You should wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day and wear each set for about two to three weeks before switching to the next pair. Dr. Woodlief will give you specific instructions based on your individualized treatment plan. We will schedule regular follow-up appointments to monitor your treatment.

Benefits of Clear Braces

Since you will not have brackets attached to your teeth, maintaining good oral hygiene is easy. You can remove your trays and then brush and floss regularly. You will also remove your trays to eat and to drink hot liquids such as coffee or tea, which can damage your aligner trays.

Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out before eating, drinking, brushing, flossing, and before important events. Traditional metal braces can restrict what you can comfortably eat, but clear aligners allow you to eat every food you want. Even brushing and flossing present their challenges with wires and brackets since sometimes you can’t reach all the parts of the tooth. Invisalign and ClearCorrect, don’t interrupt your at-home oral healthcare routine.

Since each set of clear braces fits perfectly, you will speak, smile, and laugh like normal, and no one will likely notice that you are wearing them. Our San Jose patients love that Invisalign and ClearCorrect are virtually invisible. Adults and teenagers love the inconspicuous option to straighten their teeth to create a smile you love and are proud of. You can lead a vital presentation or work event without feeling insecure about your orthodontic treatment.

After you have finished your orthodontic treatment with Invisalign or ClearCorrect in San Jose, you may want to protect your investment. At Advanced Dentistry by Design, we recommend regularly wearing retainers to prevent your teeth from shifting back into their original position. Teeth are always shifting and moving, and without prevention, they will over time reposition themselves without the use of retainers.

If Dr. Woodlief recommends Invisalign for you, you can expect to see results within six months to two years. The actual treatment time depends on the level of severity and condition of your teeth. It can be easy to misplace your (almost invisible!) aligners, so make sure you don’t wrap them up in a napkin and forget about them!

What Is the Difference Between Invisalign and ClearCorrect?

Both types of clear braces are essentially the same. They use clear BPA-free plastic to create your custom aligners. There may be slight differences in cost, aligner thickness, and the type of materials used. Invisalign uses a patented thermoplastic material known as SmartTrack. These aligners are designed to be easier to wear while being gentle and comfortable. ClearCorrect aligners tend to be thinner than Invisalign, which can make them less visible yet possibly more prone to breaking.

Ultimately, these differences are minimal and may not make a big difference to clients in San Jose. In the end, they both achieve the same results—beautiful, straight teeth.

We will discuss all your smile options with you so that you can make an excellent choice for your quality of life.
